Wie sieht die Zukunft der Fabrik und ihr Image im städtischen Umfeld aus? Im Stadtteil Sévelin in Lausanne, der heute weitgehend vom Dienstleistungssektor geprägt ist, fügt sich das Projekt in die letzte Gebäudegruppe aus den 1930er Jahren ein, die an das Recyclingunternehmen Goutte erinnert. Das Programm umfasst hauptsächlich ein Zentrum für die Wiederverwendung von Bauteilen aus dem Rückbau von Gebäuden in Lausanne, was seine Lage im Stadtzentrum rechtfertigt. Hinzu kommen Wohn- und Arbeitsräume für Handwerker, die Teil einer neuen Form der urbanen, lokalen und zirkulären Industrie sind. Die architektonische Maßnahme besteht in der Installation einer Überdachung, die das bestehende Gebäude schützt. Ihre modulare Struktur erstreckt sich punktuell um die Hallen herum, was einen schrittweisen Bau ermöglicht. Dieses Gitter, das wie ein großes Regal wirkt, gewährleistet den reibungslosen Ablauf des Programms und steht gleichzeitig im Dialog mit dem umgebenden Kulturerbe. Könnten Wiederverwendung und Industrie so das Stadtzentrum wiederbeleben?

The diploma project involves the bold transformation of commercial warehouses into housing on the outskirts of Annecy, a town facing strong demographic growth. This ambitious project imagines a new way of living, both mixed and collective, by exploiting the gaps between the existing structures to insert shared, convivial spaces. It is built around “houses” capable of accommodating a diversity of lifestyles, while fostering social ties thanks to generous, well-designed communal spaces. In this way, the interstices become places for sharing, meeting and living together. The presentation of the project, as well as the quality of the drawings and models, testifies to great mastery. This is a refreshing proposal for housing that takes full advantage of the potential of commercial wasteland. The precise and rigorous approach is based on a clear urban strategy, ranging from large-scale to intimate domestic use.

In Anlehnung an Christian Norberg-Schulz’ Idee vom Genius Loci geht es darum, den Geist des Ortes neu zu deuten und zu beleben. «Linha do Sal» ist eine lineare Infrastruktur, die ein 26 Hektar grosses Fragment der 360 Hektar umfassenden Salzlandschaft Alcochetes reaktiviert. Die Struktur orientiert sich an der Geometrie und Morphologie der Landschaft. Sie ist einerseits geradlinig und konstruktiv klar, andererseits bewusst fragmentiert und organisch in den Übergängen. Mineralische Fundamente tragen ein korrosionsresistentes Holzfachwerk aus metallarmen, reinen Holzverbindungen – robust, verankert und zugleich wandelbar in der Zeit. Als infrastruktureller Palimpsest ist das Projekt auf zeitliche Transformation angelegt: Heute dient es der kulturellen Reaktivierung, in naher Zukunft – mit steigendem Meeresspiegel – wird es als erhöhter Pfad durch überflutete Salinen fungieren. In ferner Zeit bleibt die mineralische Struktur als anthropomorphes Artefakt bestehen – ein stilles Zeugnis einer neu gedachten Salzkultur des 21. Jahrhunderts.

The thesis project “Zur Nuss-Oele” deals with an existing barn structure in Steinhausen. It addresses the issue of disappearing agricultural buildings in the urban context and examines how existing structures can be effectively revitalized by adaptive reuse and contextual integration. The project is based on extensive and carefully conducted research, proposing further development of the farmstead and restoration of the historic walnut oil mill, which serves as the centerpiece of the complex and is situated within the existing barn. The careful detailing of the structures enhances the project's credibility and the integration of old and new in dialogue reflects a deep understanding of architectural heritage and adaptive reuse. The design carefully balances preservation and innovation, with meticulous attention to materiality, detail, and contextual harmony. By transforming the historic walnut oil mill into a vibrant communal space under a sustainably updated roof, the project fosters a meaningful dialogue between old and new, nature and architecture. 

Every year, about 500 buildings in Zurich are listed for demolition. Some of them are rented temporarily. Low-income residents are increasingly dependent on interim uses – however, demolition decided, investors don’t invest money replacing necessary utilities. Four strategies were tested: A call center, becoming amateur politicians, managing property whilst using it. One strategy was setting up a call center to reach owners of demolition-listed buildings. During long approval processes these buildings remain vacant for 303 days on average before demolition begins. During this time many are available for temporary renting. No living areas were found except for a hairdressing salon to be used from September onwards only paying utilities. The fourth strategy is acting as amateur politicians. A political campaign addressing the shortage of affordable housing. If owners are not investing in properties anymore, why should tenants pay rent? Being an architect doesn’t only mean designing but also stepping in socially and providing solutions in cases like the aforementioned.

Dans un monde où l'accélération et la croissance constante sont mises en crise, le rôle de l'architecte est fragilisé. Celui-ci est obligé de repenser sa façon d'exercer son métier et de contribuer à la fabrique de notre société. L'ardoise, un matériau de construction historique, disponible dans les alpes suisses mais aujourd'hui dans l'oubli est l'objet d'études du travail de Master. Celui-ci est découpé en trois phases dont la première Révélation met en valeur le contexte paysager et éomorphologique, les conditions d'exploitation et de transformation de la matière ainsi que ces caractéristiques naturelles. En se plaçant en tant qu’architecte-artisan, l’auteur du projet se met dans une position d'écoute et de découverte face à la matière et à son potentiel de transformation. Le processus de projet est ouvert et expérimental. Un dispositif d'exposition raconte les différentes explorations et met en valeur les multiples facettes et la grande richesse du travail à travers des échantillons, des photographies, des dessins, des protocoles d'expérimentation et des prototypes. Des relations visuelles croisées permettent aux visiteurs de saisir la profondeur du travail, de tisser des liens entre les différentes parties et de se constituer ainsi un imaginaire propre à ce matériau.

Le projet s’inscrit dans le centre haussmannien de Paris, qui, par son histoire, a su démontrer sa capacité à absorber les grandes mutations démographiques. Le site se compose d’un ensemble d’immeubles haussmanniens au centre duquel un garage des années 1960 offre une typologie unique et devient ainsi à l’origine d’une hybridation à amplifier. Un environnement domestique inclusive et « dénormée » est proposé, qui s’étend à la fois dans les appartements haussmanniens et sur les plateaux de l’ancien garage. « Cellule », « Cluster » ou « Plateau », offrent des espaces aux rythmes de tous, en réponse à des temporalités différentes. Au sein des immeubles haussmanniens, les clusters visent à expérimenter des interactions augmentées, gravitant autour d'usages fondamentaux largement partagés. La maison est revendiquée ouverte et les différentes durées d’occupation, ainsi que la forte densité générée, trouvent place dans une matrice d’espaces à envahir. La densité haussmannienne et l’immatérialisme du plateau sont amplifiés et déforment les codes domestiques au profit d’espaces et d’objets qui deviennent les nouveaux lieux publics du logement générant des situations inattendues et des dispositifs novateurs. La mutation de nos contextes et les mouvements démographiques qui l’accompagnent, deviennent une des clés à la conception de nouvelles manières d’habiter. Le projet considère l’architecture de la « maison » comme un espace de modification des comportements sociétaux.

Ein Gebäude als Teil der Landschaft des Irchelparkes. Ein Spiel zwischen Masse und Leichtigkeit. Ein massiver Rohbau entsteht aus lokalen, rein natürlichen Materialien aus der direkten Umgebung des Strickhofs. Durch einen Aushub vor Ort können bis zu 100% des nötigen Baumaterials für Stampflehm und das Steinfundament gewonnen werden. Die Umgebung wird als Weiterführung des Irchelparkes modelliert und schafft so neue Lebensräume für Flora und Fauna. Das Konstruktionsholz stammt aus dem angrenzenden Zürichberg-Wald. Dächer der lokalen Gewächshäuser werden wiederverwendet und falten sich als leichtes Dach, schützend über den Rohbau. Das Gebäude wird auch als Materiallager verstanden. Es ist nicht dauerhaft. Am Ende seiner Lebensdauer können die Elemente der hochwertigen Hülle aus Stahl und Glas wiederverwendet werden, während der natürliche Rohbau aus Stein, Erde und Holz wieder Teil der Landschaft wird.

Les vestiges de l’ère industrielle constituent une matière première louable pour la production de logements collectifs comme alternative à l’étalement urbain. Se heurtant à des emprises très épaisses (souvent bien au-delà de 16 mètres), un tel exercice reconsidère à la hausse la profondeur domestique usuelle. L’énoncé théorique, le jeu de la profondeur, explorait l’état limite du standard et offrait des outils projectuels pour l’appréhender. A la frontière franco-suisse, le village jurassien de Boncourt est orphelin de l’industrie lui ayant valu deux siècles de prospérité suite à la délocalisation du cigarettier British American Tobacco. L’Entrepôt pour Tabac d’Orient livré par les architectes bâlois Suter & Suter (1965) se développe brutalement au cœur du tissu en une barre d’environ 200 par 27 mètres qui borde l’Allaine. Le projet reconnaît les qualités constructives de l’ensemble et conserve son intégrité structurelle tout en perçant les zones les moins sollicitées. L’édifice forme une nouvelle pièce urbaine et établit une porosité avec son contexte en accueillant une mixité de programmes publics qui dynamisent le lieu. En particulier, un bain public est finement inséré entre les fondations. Une ruelle aérienne se développe à ciel ouvert à la manière d’une faille sur toute la longueur de l’entrepôt, respectant sa distribution originale centrée, générant deux nouvelles façades introverties. Une imbrication volumétrique complexe confère une variété typologique dans laquelle chaque logis est traversant et tire pleinement parti de l’orientation est-ouest.

DIS/ ASSEMBLE investigates the obsolete Chavalon power plant as what is commonly referred to as a Negative Common – a negative resource our generation will inherit. The project’s priority is to offer a vision highlighting our shared responsibility for the site; by proposing its progressive dismantling, re-use and care. Being about process and interactions, a sensible itinerary for its end-of-life is organised with a gradual return to nature, as promised at its time of construction in 1965. The site opens to the public, sanitation and deconstruction begin and the main vacant building is transformed into a re-use center processing and storing the material on site. In this operation, the moment of the boiler’s dismantling leaves the facade of the re-use center open. It makes room for an architectural gesture: a temporary facade in re-used steel that becomes the mediator between the worksite and the public. A monument to deconstruction and visual indicator of the unmaking, remaking, and maintenance of the growing parc.
